Aliança Catalana, a Catalan political party, has selected Sílvia Cubo Pons as its candidate for mayor of Manresa in the 2027 municipal elections.

The party said Cubo will campaign on public safety, street cleaning, simpler local administration, economic activity and tighter use of municipal funds. For Manresa residents, those priorities set out the issues on which its mayoral candidate intends to seek support before the 2027 vote.

Cubo's professional and civic background

Cubo is a businesswoman, university lecturer and holds doctoral qualifications in Law, Economics and Business, according to the party's announcement.

  • She has previously been president of AIJECT Catalunya Central, an association for young entrepreneurs in Central Catalonia.
  • She has served as vice-president of the Manresa Chamber of Commerce.
  • She has also been vice-president of Montepio de Conductors, a mutual association for drivers.

Aliança Catalana said she has taken part in projects linked to regional development and entrepreneurship.

Candidate calls for a different approach to city management

Cubo said she decided to stand because she no longer recognised the Manresa where she was born and grew up, and argued that the city needed a change in how it was managed.

“I am not a career politician or someone who works from an office. I am a practical person, used to putting in the hard work and speaking plainly. Managing Manresa means getting out on the streets, listening to residents, analysing problems with data and applying solutions that work.”

She said she wants a local administration focused on residents, where public spending results in useful investment, safer neighbourhoods and efficient services. Cubo also described the mayor's office as an executive responsibility requiring decisions to be made while listening to people across the city’s neighbourhoods.

The municipal elections, in which Manresa voters will elect a new council and mayoral leadership, are due to take place in 2027.
