On Thursday 17 September, Vox's group at L'Hospitalet de Llobregat City Council said the council's Local Government Board had approved a contract to distribute publicity material for the Mayor's Office, with a total planned cost of €72,575.79 over 2026 and 2027.
The party, which is in opposition to the PSC-led municipal government, said it wants the tender cancelled. It alleged that the material amounts to politically motivated institutional publicity, an allegation not independently established in the information released by Vox.
For residents, the sum cited by Vox is scheduled as municipal spending across two budget years: €29,326.72 in 2026 and €43,249.07 in 2027. Vox has proposed that money instead be directed towards additional Guardia Urbana municipal police staff, street cleaning, parks and gardens, and support for people in need.
Vox calls for contract to be cancelled
According to Vox, the total consists of a €59,979.99 pre-VAT contract value and €12,595.80 in VAT. The party did not identify the supplier or state when the Local Government Board considered the procurement file.
“It is unacceptable and immoral for the PSC to continue using municipal coffers as though they were its private fiefdom, to finance leaflets and institutional propaganda with clear electoral aims, while our residents suffer neglect in neighbourhoods, a lack of security and deteriorating street cleanliness,” said Francisco González, Vox's spokesperson on the council.
González also referred to a recent publicity campaign for a proposed sports centre that would occupy part of Parc de l'Alhambra. He said the project could not proceed without sufficient support for the urban-planning change required.
Vox said it will seek the immediate cancellation of the tender. The party's statement did not set out a public deadline, council meeting date or procedure for residents to make representations on the contract.
