A 79-year-old man from Els Omellons, identified as M.R.A., died yesterday morning, 10 May 2026, after a tractor accident in the Garrigues municipality. The retired farmer was driving his agricultural vehicle, which had a trailer, along the Camí de Rodants when it left the road and plunged down an embankment, according to the Catalan Traffic Service (SCT).

The incident occurred in an area with agricultural land and other vegetation. Emergency services received the alert at 9.10am. Four Mossos d'Esquadra patrols, three Generalitat Fire Brigade units, and three Medical Emergency System (SEM) units, along with a psychological support team, attended the scene. Despite their efforts, the man could not be saved.

Community Mourns Loss

Following the accident, Els Omellons town council, representing a village of approximately 190 residents, declared two days of mourning. A minute of silence was held yesterday afternoon in front of the town hall to remember the victim, who was a well-known and respected retired farmer in the community.

This marks the second fatal tractor accident in the Lleida region within 48 hours. Last Friday, 8 May 2026, a 52-year-old man from Albesa died after an accident involving an agricultural vehicle while working on his property in the Noguera municipality. Emergency services were alerted shortly after 10am, with five Generalitat Fire Brigade units, Mossos d'Esquadra, and Medical Emergency System personnel responding, but they were unable to save his life.
