Tortosa will host the New Water Culture Foundation’s annual assembly on Saturday, 6 June, according to officials. The meeting comes as the foundation marks a quarter-century of support for the Platform in Defence of the Ebre, a long-running campaign rooted in Terres de l’Ebre.
The choice of Tortosa places the city at the centre of a debate that has shaped water policy in Catalonia for years. The Platform in Defence of the Ebre was formed 25 years ago and has remained active in calls for sustainable water management and for protection of the river’s ecosystem.
The group has campaigned against controversial water transfer plans and in favour of restoring the Ebre Delta. Its work has drawn attention at both national and international level to the ecological importance of the river and the need for a different approach to water policy in Catalonia and Spain.
The assembly is expected to review past work and set out future priorities for the Ebre. Both organisations continue to argue for policies that protect the environment and the communities that depend on the river.
