Figueres has started dismantling the temporary tent that has served Vilatenim’s civic centre since 2017, a step towards a permanent replacement for the neighbourhood.

The provisional structure replaced the former Centre Recreatiu Empordanès building, which was demolished in 2016. That demolition formed part of an expropriation linked to the C-260 roadworks project, according to the council.

Residents have long called for a permanent civic centre, and the removal of the tent marks progress after years of temporary arrangements in Vilatenim.

The city council says the next stage is to tender the construction works for the new civic centre later this year. The project is part of the wider local news agenda in Figueres and Girona, with more updates available on our news page.
