Tarragona is preparing a summer programme of activities ahead of the total solar eclipse on 12 August 2026. The city is expected to be one of the best viewing points for the event, which will last 61 seconds.

Guillermo García, Tarragona's Councillor for Environment, said the activities are designed for all ages and aim to enrich the experience of 12 August. Scientific communicator Joan Anton Català said public interest is likely to grow as the date approaches, with more questions and a greater need for explanations.

The programme includes an inflatable planetarium that will visit schools, civic centres and municipal buildings between 25 June and 26 July. Tarragona will also stage astronomical videomapping at the Capçalera del Circ Romà on 25 July, 1 August and 8 August.

Public sky observations are planned from the Balcó del Mediterrani on 21 June and 12 July. The Teatre Tarragona will host El Gran Eclipsi on 29 July, while Cabaret absurd musical, created by Xavier Michel and Estel Boada, is scheduled for 5 August in Plaça de les Cols. The youth programme also includes nocturnal enigmas and a photography workshop.

Rovira i Virgili University is contributing a series of conferences with international experts from 19 June to 16 July. Tarragona will also host the Spanish Astronomy Society Congress from 13 to 17 July, with talks open to the public. More information is available on the city council's dedicated eclipse website, and the council says it will later publish safety and civility guidance.
