Vilanova del Camí has started a new cleaning and maintenance model for its neighbourhoods, with the aim of improving public spaces through a more planned and preventive system. The first phase began in Camp del Rei, which is being used as a pilot before the rollout continues across the rest of the municipality.
The work includes cleaning streets, pavements and container areas, as well as checking drains, especially after recent heavy rainfall. The town council says the goal is to organise operations and keep neighbourhoods in better condition on a regular basis. Environment Councillor Susana Gutiérrez said this is not a one-off campaign, but a new way of working, “more planned and more periodic”.
The municipality has been divided into eight sectors to help schedule the work. After Camp del Rei, the cleaning teams will move on to Sant Hilari, the Fluvial Park and Can Titó, before continuing through the urban centre and then towards La Pau. The council expects each full rotation of the eight sectors to take place every four to six months.
Gutiérrez said the plan does not involve extra resources, but a reorganisation of the staff and equipment already in use. She also said the council is coordinating with the Local Police to reduce disruption while the cleaning work is under way.
The new approach is intended to build routine maintenance into the town’s day-to-day operations. The pilot in Camp del Rei will be used to assess how the system works before it is applied across all eight sectors. For more local updates, see our news coverage.
