Residents in Vic, Osona, are experiencing heightened fear and insecurity after a wave of violent street robberies in recent weeks. According to ElCaso.com, five assaults have been reported in the last fortnight, all carried out by the same group of thieves.
The criminals targeted vulnerable or distracted individuals, using aggressive snatch-and-grab tactics to steal jewellery. Victims often suffered minor injuries during the attacks, while the assailants fled on foot. The Mossos d'Esquadra's Investigation Unit in Vic, working with the city's Guàrdia Urbana, is investigating these incidents.
Suspects Identified in Vic Robberies
While no arrests have been made in connection with these specific five assaults, police have identified the attackers as a group of young North African and Sub-Saharan individuals. Authorities are determining which members participated in the recent violent robberies and are also investigating if they are linked to several jewellery store robberies across the Osona region in recent months.
This wave of robberies follows the arrest of two men, aged 18 and 22, earlier in April. They were detained by the Mossos for four robberies in Vic, including two street snatches and two commercial premises thefts. These two individuals, whose nationalities were not disclosed and who had no prior police records, were remanded in custody. The investigation continues to identify other accomplices.
Recent Arrest After Attack on Elderly Woman
In a separate but similar incident, a minor was arrested this Tuesday, 24 March 2026, after committing another robbery using a comparable method. The incident occurred shortly before 4:30pm on Carrer Mare de Déu del Pilar. Two individuals approached a 73-year-old woman from behind and forcibly removed her watch. The victim sustained minor bruises and scratches from the attack.
A witness provided police with a description of one of the culprits, whom they saw running away. Officers located the minor, who attempted to flee. After a pursuit through the city streets, the individual was arrested on Passeig de la Generalitat. The minor faces charges of robbery with violence and intimidation and minor injuries.
