The Municipal Sports Board of Valls is preparing its 17th Popular Walk, a charity event set to take place on Sunday, 12 April. This year, the walk will support AFASIT, the Association of Families of Child Sexual Abuse in Tarragona, according to officials.

The event is sponsored by VEOLIA and involves collaboration from the Alt Camp Sports Council, local hiking groups K+ and the AAEET Mountain Section, as well as Vermut Montseta and Patates Palau. Participants will follow a 13.8 km circular route through Valls, Masmolets, and Fontscaldes, with a 200m elevation gain.

The walk is expected to take around five hours to complete. It starts at 8:30am from Plaça de la Sardana, with participants expected to return to the same point by 1:30pm. Aid stations will be available along the route, however, organisers recommend bringing personal water and light snacks such as fruit, energy bars, biscuits, or nuts.

Preparing for the Walk

While a popular event, the walk is aimed at adults accustomed to longer treks. Organisers advise participants to wear appropriate gear, especially comfortable footwear like trekking shoes or boots, as the activity lasts all morning. Suitable clothing and accessories for the predicted weather conditions are also recommended.

Since 2015, the Popular Walk has consistently supported various charities. This year, the focus is on AFASIT, an organisation that provides support to families of child sexual abuse victims. AFASIT's main goals include protecting children's human rights, working to eradicate child sexual abuse, and helping survivors.

Registration Details

Registration for the walk opens on Thursday, 19 March, and closes on Thursday, 9 April. Online registration through the Municipal Sports Board's website is preferred, as no registrations will be accepted on the day of the event. A fee of €5 per person or €10 per family applies, payable when collecting the participation wristband.

To help with organisation and avoid queues on the day, participants are encouraged to collect their wristbands in advance at the El Fornàs Municipal Sports Centre or the Joana Ballart pavilion offices during morning hours. Wristbands can also be collected on the morning of the walk from 8am.
