Valls City Council in Catalonia has scheduled five multi-sport mornings for primary school children, aligning with school holidays to help family reconciliation. These sessions, taking place at the Municipal Sports Centre El Fornàs, aim to support parents with childcare during non-school days.
This marks the second academic year for these popular multi-sport days, which saw significant acceptance last year. The initiative is a joint effort by the Department of Equality and Feminism and the Municipal Sports Board, with support from the Alt Camp Sports Council.
The programme is designed to assist families when schools are closed, making it easier to balance work and childcare responsibilities. It also promotes sports participation among children. Each session will run from 9am to 1pm.
Programme Dates and Registration
The multi-sport days are set for 10 October, 3 November, 3 February, 27 February, and 4 May. Registration for the first session on 10 October opens on 19 September. Families can reserve a place online for €2, with the deadline for the 10 October session being 3 October.
The programme receives funding from the Catalan government's 'Temps x Cures' (Time for Care) initiative. This programme supports families with care tasks and promotes adults' right to personal time. Valls City Council has previously organised other activities with a similar goal, such as providing babysitting services at events like Aerobic Day, the Young Art Market, and various cultural shows and concerts. Additionally, the municipal summer camp is also structured to offer family support.
