Valldoreix hosted its first nine-storey human tower during its Festa Major castellers event on Sunday 20 September, after Minyons de Terrassa completed a 3 de 9 amb folre. The milestone makes Valldoreix a plaça de nou, a venue where a human tower nine levels high has been successfully completed, giving residents a new landmark in the history of the local festival.

The tower consisted of three people on each of nine levels, supported by a reinforced second tier known as a folre. In castell terminology, completing a structure and safely dismantling it is known as descarregar.

Minyons de Terrassa complete four structures

According to the event report, Minyons de Terrassa also completed three further structures during the display:

  • a five-person-wide tower of eight levels;
  • a two-person-wide tower of eight levels with a reinforced second tier; and
  • a seven-level pillar with a reinforced second tier.

Sant Cugat group maintains Festa Major record

Castellers de Sant Cugat, also known as the Gausacs, completed a four-person-wide tower of eight levels on their second attempt. They then completed a seven-person-wide tower of seven levels and a two-person-wide tower of seven levels.

The group has attended Valldoreix Festa Major every year since it was founded in 1996. Its eight-level towers have appeared at the festival each year since the Gausacs first completed a four-of-eight in 2011, according to the event report.

Castellers de Sarrià and Xics de Granollers also took part in the Sunday display.
