Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) will extend the V5 bus line route to the junction of Carrers Motors and Acer in the La Marina del Prat Vermell neighbourhood of Sants-Montjuïc, Barcelona. This new origin/final stop will be active from Monday, 27 April, according to TMB Barcelona News. The V5 indicator will change to "La Marina del Prat Vermell - Pedralbes" to reflect the extended route.

The route will expand by nearly two kilometres, adding eight new stops while removing three existing ones. The extension moves south from Carrer de la Mare de Déu de Port, following Carrer del Foc and Passeig de la Zona Franca to the corner of Carrer Motors. From there, the line will continue to Carrer de l'Acer, where the new origin/final stop for the V5 will be located.

From this new terminal, buses will turn onto Carrer de Cal Cisó before resuming the northbound journey back to Passeig de la Zona Franca. The three stops being removed are 2495 on Carrer Mare de Déu de Port and 3517 on Carrer Cisell, both in the direction of the sea. The former origin/final stop, 3546 at Pg. Zona Franca-Sant Eloi, will also be cancelled.

Improving Public Transport Coverage

The V5 line transported nearly 2.8 million people in 2025, a 4.5% increase from 2024. The line records an average of almost 9,000 validations on weekdays, 3,500 on Saturdays, and 2,700 on public holidays. The V5 operates from 5:50am to 10pm on weekdays and from 6am to 10pm on Saturdays and public holidays. The extension will not affect the line's usual frequency.

This expansion is part of the Agenda Bus 2026-2030, a set of measures designed to improve urban and interurban bus services. Specifically for Barcelona, the agenda includes increasing service in La Marina, within the Sants-Montjuïc district. Beyond the V5 line extension, the plan also involves creating a new express line, which is expected to start service during 2026.

These changes aim to increase territorial coverage in La Marina del Prat Vermell, providing a vertical link to newly constructed housing, many of which are municipal public initiatives. The goal is to better connect residents with the city's public transport network.
