The TV-7411 road in Riba-roja d'Ebre, Tarragona, was closed again on Wednesday morning, 14 May 2026, due to a second vegetation fire in less than 24 hours. Firefighters from the Generalitat were called to the scene at 6.08am to tackle the blaze, which ignited in a cane field near the Ebre river.
The fire, located close to an area that burned the previous evening, has been stabilised, according to the fire service. The flames are contained between the river and the previously affected zone. Ten ground crews were deployed to prevent the fire from spreading further in an area with a lot of dry vegetation.
Emergency services confirmed that the fire has not created secondary outbreaks and has not crossed the road or impacted train services. However, the TV-7411 remains closed in both directions as extinction efforts continue.
Repeated Incidents Raise Concerns
This latest incident follows a forest fire on Tuesday evening, which started around 8pm at kilometre 3 of the same road. That earlier fire required seven fire crews and led to the preventive suspension of R15 train services between Riba-roja d'Ebre and Flix, as well as traffic on the TV-7411.
The recurrence of fires within such a short period in this part of the municipality is causing concern. Officials are worried about the risk of propagation in a riverside area with abundant vegetation, situated very close to both road and rail infrastructure.
Authorities will continue to monitor the situation closely, especially given the dry conditions and the proximity of the fires to key transport links. Further investigations into the cause of both fires are expected.
