Teachers in Manresa, Central Catalonia, blocked the C-25 (Eix Transversal) and C-16 motorways on Thursday morning as part of an education strike. The action caused significant disruption, with demonstrators carrying banners and chanting slogans against the Catalan government.

The protests started at 9am with three columns of people, on foot and by bicycle, departing from Nou Congost in Manresa, Institut Llobregat in Sallent, and Institut Manel Bosch in Artés. These groups converged to block the major road arteries, according to local reports.

Protesters Demand More Resources

Around 100 people joined the Manresa column, displaying banners that read 'Bloquegem-ho tot' (Let's block everything). They chanted slogans such as 'Les despeses policials per a escoles i hospitals' (Police expenses for schools and hospitals) and 'Menys discursos i més recursos' (Less speeches and more resources).

The demonstrators plan to keep the roads blocked for several hours and organise a communal lunch at the junction of the C-16 and C-25 near Sallent. This industrial action highlights ongoing tensions between education professionals and the regional government over funding and working conditions.

Further actions are expected as unions continue to press their demands for increased investment in public education across Catalonia.
