Barcelona's Plaça de Catalunya will host the 12th edition of Tast a la Rambla, a popular culinary festival, from 28 to 31 May. The event brings together some of the city's best restaurants and pastry shops, offering their signature dishes in tapa format for €6 each.
Organised by the Amics de La Rambla association and Grup Gsr, Tast a la Rambla has become a major public celebration, highlighting La Rambla and central Barcelona as places for community, culture, and food. This year's festival emphasises local produce, creative cooking, and sustainability, according to organisers. It will feature 30 restaurants and six pastry shops, serving their dishes via tokens, the event's official currency, or card payments.
High-End Cuisine and Live Cooking
The festival will showcase traditional Catalan cuisine, tapas, author's dishes, world cuisines, and creative pastry. Over four days, the event will gather a total of 13 Michelin Stars and 18 Repsol Suns among its participating restaurants and guest chefs. These chefs will lead live cooking sessions, combining talent, produce, and high-level cooking accessible to everyone.
Award-winning establishments such as Atempo, Cinc Sentits, Enoteca Paco Pérez, Compartir, Dos Pebrots, and Nectari will offer their culinary proposals. Entry to the festival grounds is free. Opening hours are from 12:00 to 22:00 on Thursday and Sunday, and until 00:00 on Friday and Saturday.
A Temporary Location
The festival is taking place in Plaça de Catalunya, a central point connecting the old city and the Eixample district, due to ongoing works on La Rambla. This location is symbolic and provisional, according to organisers. Àlex Balletbó, president of the Amics de La Rambla association, expressed hope that the festival will return to La Rambla next year.
Recognising Culinary Contributions
Tast a la Rambla also presents an award to individuals who enrich Barcelona's culinary culture. This recognition honours effort, passion, and the ability to build social connections through cooking, which is seen as a significant collective heritage of Barcelona. Previous recipients include Christian Escribà for pastry and Carles Gaig for restaurant excellence.
This year, the third edition of the award goes to Ramon Agenjo, a director and great-grandson of the founder of Estrella Damm, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary. Agenjo is recognised for his commitment to the city's cultural and gastronomic life.
Music and Social Commitment
Beyond food, the festival integrates live music, transforming the event into a broader cultural and leisure experience. The TRL stage will host concerts throughout the four days, creating a blend of cuisine, culture, and outdoor entertainment. The musical line-up includes performances by Vania, Aldala, DJ Andrés Bua, Kanela, DJ Ara Aloha, DJ Gio Moreno, Versiónika, DJ Carrera, MASH Live Music Solutions, Joan Esteve, DJ ToniFP-Lafesty, and Escudero Sax, among others.
For another year, Tast a la Rambla will involve staff from Casal dels Infants and will strengthen its commitment to the social and solidarity economy by including personnel from Cuina Justa. The festival also continues to support the training of new generations of hospitality professionals through the involvement of students from CETT.
