Tarragona and the entire Catalan coast are bracing for intense rainfall and locally strong thunderstorms on Tuesday, 5 May. Protecció Civil has activated the pre-alert phase of its INUNCAT plan due to the risk of heavy showers, according to the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (Meteocat).
Forecasts indicate that the first rain will begin weakly in Tortosa around 2pm. By 3pm, the weather instability will increase, forming storms that will spread inland to areas like Falset, Vandellòs, Valls, and Montblanc. The most active core of the weather system is expected to fully affect Alt Camp and surrounding areas by 4pm.
Coastal Areas and Further Spread
Simultaneously, the central coast of Tarragona province, including the cities of Tarragona, Reus, and Cambrils, will experience lighter, more scattered rain from 5pm. However, isolated intense downpours are not ruled out in these areas.
Throughout the afternoon, the weather system will expand. By 7pm, the rain will have reached much of the southern half of Tarragona province, extending into Baix Penedès, affecting municipalities such as El Vendrell and Torredembarra.
Outlook for Wednesday
The intense weather is expected to ease from 8pm, with rain diminishing from south to north. Skies will remain mostly cloudy, although some clear spells might appear in inland areas like Falset by the end of the day, coinciding with the last rays of sun.
For Wednesday, 6 May, the situation is set to stabilise slightly. The yellow alert will be lifted for most of the territory, but rain will continue in the far south, particularly around La Sénia. Additionally, a rain warning will remain in place for northeastern regions, including Alt Empordà, Pla de l’Estany, and Garrotxa.
