Tarragona, Catalonia – The Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (Meteocat) has issued a yellow alert for intense rain across parts of Tarragona province, effective from the early hours of Monday. The warning specifically targets the Tarragonès and Baix Camp regions, where heavy precipitation is expected.
The alert for a dangerous meteorological situation is in place between 00:00 and 06:00 on Monday. During this six-hour window, more than 20 litres per square metre could accumulate in just 30 minutes, according to Meteocat. The maximum danger level set by the service is 1 out of 6.
Rain Forecast Across Catalonia
Beyond Tarragona, intense rain is also forecast for the northeast of Catalonia between 12:00 and 18:00 on Monday, also with a danger level of 1 out of 6. The rest of Catalonia is expected to remain outside of any weather warnings.
Meteocat updated its warning for intense rain, noting the possibility of over 20 mm in 30 minutes. The alert, which started on Sunday afternoon, extends until Monday evening. The meteorological service predicts a rainy morning along the coast and in the northeast of Catalonia. However, by the afternoon, showers will concentrate in the central coastal areas, and the northern and northeastern mountain regions.
Temperature Changes Expected
Regarding temperatures, minimums are set to rise moderately across the region. Maximum temperatures will fall in the eastern half of Catalonia, while they will increase in Ponent and Terres de l'Ebre. Other areas of Catalonia will see temperatures remain largely unchanged, according to Meteocat's forecast.
