Tarragona province is preparing for a notable drop in temperatures and strong winds this weekend, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). The forecast for Friday, 15 May 2026, includes very cloudy skies and powerful gusts, particularly in higher and exposed areas.
A passing weather front is expected to bring unstable conditions across much of Catalonia. This will cause a significant fall in maximum temperatures in the Catalan pre-coastal region, which includes parts of Tarragona province, Aemet reports.
Wind and Rain Expected Across Catalonia
Catalonia is set for very cloudy skies for most of the day, with showers and storms anticipated in the eastern half of the territory. While the most intense rainfall may be concentrated in Girona, Tarragona will also experience the shift in weather, with lower temperatures and moderate winds in the southern half of Catalonia.
Aemet has also warned of strong wind intervals and potentially very strong gusts in high or exposed areas of Tarragona, specifically in pre-coastal and mountainous zones. Civil Protection issued a pre-alert for strong winds, stating that west winds are expected on the Tarragona coast until midday on Friday, shifting to east winds on the central coast in the afternoon.
This meteorological event follows several days of mild temperatures and stable atmospheric conditions. It coincides with cooler weather across much of the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands. Across Spain, the front is predicted to bring persistent rain to the Cantabrian region, snow at altitudes between 1,200 and 1,400 metres in northern Spain, and an almost general decrease in maximum temperatures.
