A group of teachers blocked the N-240 road in Lleida on Friday morning, shortly after 7.30am. The demonstrators specifically targeted the entrance to Lleida via this route, near the Montserrat church.
The teachers had gathered at a nearby location before moving onto the road. They overturned several bins and brought school furniture, including tables and chairs, to create the blockade. This action marked the start of a strike day for education professionals in Ponent, Alt Pirineu, and Aran.
Week of Industrial Action
This Friday's stoppage is the fourth day of strikes this week. A general strike took place across Catalonia on Tuesday, with subsequent regional strikes organised from Wednesday onwards. The ongoing industrial action stems from a lack of agreement between the Department of Education and trade unions.
On Thursday, a meeting between the Department of Education and union representatives concluded without a resolution. However, both parties have scheduled another meeting for next Tuesday to continue negotiations.
