Sant Fruitós de Bages, in Catalonia’s central region, will bring a proposal to its municipal plenary this Thursday to declare Can Figueras, also known as Casa Els Pins, a Local Cultural Asset (BCIL).
The council says the measure is intended to preserve the historic property, which has heritage value for the municipality. If approved, the designation would place the house under formal protection.
BCIL status is the second-highest level of heritage protection in Catalonia, below National Cultural Assets. It gives local authorities a legal framework to safeguard buildings of recognised historical, architectural or cultural interest.
For Can Figueras, that would mean tighter controls on future changes, use and maintenance. The aim is to prevent alterations that could damage the building’s character or lead to its loss.
The proposal also reflects a wider effort across Catalonia to protect local heritage through official recognition. For readers following similar council decisions, see our news coverage.
If the plenary approves the declaration, the house will join the list of protected assets in Sant Fruitós de Bages, with rules designed to keep its historic identity intact.
