A 24-year-old man was arrested by Mossos d'Esquadra in Sant Cugat on 28 April for assaulting a homeless man in Rubí. The attack was motivated by aporophobia, or hatred of homeless people, according to police.
The incident took place on 3 May 2025. The aggressor punched the 58-year-old victim while he was charging his mobile phone at a supermarket. The victim was hit hard in the face and fell to the ground, stunned. The attacker had verbally abused him for using an electrical outlet in the food shop.
After the assault, the aggressor left the scene in a vehicle without helping the victim. Several witnesses came to the aid of the injured man and waited for the arrival of Mossos d'Esquadra officers and a SEM ambulance. The ambulance took the victim to a medical centre for treatment. He suffered physical and emotional injuries, requiring ongoing medical care.
Investigation and Judicial Proceedings
Officers from the Central Unit for Hate Crimes and Discrimination (UCDOC) identified the perpetrator. The young man appeared before Section 7 of the Rubí Court, Civil and Instruction Section of the Court of First Instance, on 29 April.
