In Sant Boi de Llobregat, a recently opened section of the new B-25 motorway has created a confusing situation for drivers, with an exit signposting a destination that is not yet accessible. Exit 53 on the C-32, heading towards Barcelona, indicates connections to Barcelona's Gran Via, the Salines industrial estate in Sant Boi, and the C-31C link road. However, this route is not yet fully operational.

According to local publication ElLlobregat, this creates a “ghost exit” where drivers follow signs expecting a direct connection to the Gran Via, but instead enter a section of the B-25 still under construction, experiencing delays and diversions. To return to the correct route, vehicles must continue past the Sant Boi centre and BV-2002 exits before diverting towards the A-2.

Sant Boi Town Council has asked the project's technical assistance team for the “provisional cancellation” of the C-32's Exit 53 signage “until the link is effectively opened”. The council has also requested an estimated opening date for the C-31C to C-32 links, which are critical for completing the planned connections.

New Motorway Section Opens

This confusion comes shortly after a significant milestone for mobility in Baix Llobregat. The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility recently opened 1.95 km of the new B-25 motorway, connecting the A-2 and C-31C in Sant Boi. This infrastructure has been a long-standing demand, intended to reduce traffic through the urban centre and improve access to the city.

Óscar Puente, Spain's Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, announced the opening on 30 April 2026, stating that the project improves mobility and reduces travel times in Baix Llobregat. He also noted plans to extend the motorway by 2.9 km between the C-32 and A-2, with an investment of €65.8 million.

Project History and Remaining Works

The main section of the new motorway partially opened in May 2025, with one lane in each direction between the A-2's Exit 607 and the C-31C connection. The recent completion includes a second entry lane from the A-2 to the B-25 towards Sant Boi, as well as new ramps for the Sant Boi-Cornellà link and its lower roundabout.

However, some elements remain unfinished, including the lighting system, final construction touches, and additional works requested by the Town Council to better integrate the new infrastructure with the urban area and the city's façade.

Local Impact and Future Connections

Sant Boi Mayor Lluïsa Moret expressed her satisfaction with the new motorway's opening, calling it a “long-demanded road axis for our city that already directs thousands of vehicles away from our urban environment and will undoubtedly help improve traffic flow in and out of the town”.

The B-25 is expected to bypass the historic Parellada roundabout, which has been one of Sant Boi's most congested points for years. Until the pending C-31C link opens, the correct way to reach the Gran Via from the C-32 is to continue on the motorway to the Llobregat junction, and from there, follow signs for the Ronda Litoral, Gran Via, Fira, and Hospitalet.
