The Barcelona City Council's Government Commission has approved the definitive project for the remodelling of Sant Adrià and Otger streets in Sant Andreu, Barcelona, with works scheduled to commence in the third quarter of 2026.

This significant street remodelling project, initially approved in early February, has now completed all necessary procedures. The council anticipates the works will last approximately 15 months and has allocated €3.5 million for the transformation.

The primary objective is to establish a single-platform axis, enhancing pedestrian priority and connecting the Fabra i Coats cultural centre with Plaça de Can Fabra. Vehicle access will be restricted solely to residents and essential services, creating new areas for public use.

The street has, in practice, been closed to general road traffic since June 2023. This temporary closure was due to the installation of a marquee on Sant Adrià street, between Otger and Segre streets, to house the provisional Sant Andreu Market.

Creating a Pedestrian-Friendly Civic Axis

Sant Andreu councillor Marta Villanueva highlighted the benefits of the reform, stating it "will allow the creation of a civic axis in the centre of the neighbourhood." She noted the area's high activity, including a library and frequent passage of children.

Villanueva further explained that the new street layout will promote "permeability between one side and the other of Sant Adrià street" and ensure the link between both sides is "much more pleasant, green and accessible."

With the project now definitively approved, residents can expect the transformation to begin in Q3 2026, with completion anticipated around late 2027, promising a significantly improved urban environment for the Sant Andreu community.
