Salou, in Catalonia’s Costa Daurada, was turned into a 1960s Miami set on 10 June for a film shoot about The Beatles.

The Jaume I promenade and a section of Llevant beach were dressed for the production, with crews placing hundreds of large potted plants and putting up fences along the main thoroughfare. A stretch of beach was also cordoned off, according to local reports.

Near the Font Lluminosa, a line of Cadillacs, some with Florida licence plates or styled as vintage Miami police cars, and classic motorbikes were parked. The technical crew also set up tents and filming equipment in a nearby car park next to the Font Cibernètica.

The production is aiming to recreate Miami in the 1960s, the period when The Beatles gained major international fame. The use of Salou for the shoot underlines how Catalan locations are being used for large film projects.

Details about the cast and plot were not immediately available. Local officials had not commented on how long the shoot would last or on any possible impact on residents and tourism.

The film’s completion date and release schedule have not been announced. For more Catalonia news, see our news coverage.
