Salou’s giantess La Gralleta has a new costume after a ceremony held on Saturday, 6 June 2026, in Plaça Bonet. The event was organised by the Associació Cultural Gegants de Salou and brought together local representatives and members of the group.

Mayor Pere Granados and the Councillor for Popular and Traditional Culture, Marçal Curto, attended the presentation. The new costume reflects the attire worn by members of the gegants group and uses Salou’s identifying colours.

Granados congratulated the association and said the Gegants de Salou plays an important role in cohesion, learning and community life. He also said the group helps pass on the town’s values and strengthen local belonging. For more local coverage, see our news page.

He described the costume as very successful and said it accurately represents the group’s identity. He also repeated the council’s support for local associations, especially those with social, cultural and educational roles. He said entities are a key part of building a city and creating spaces for participation, coexistence and social cohesion.

Teresa Vilagran, president of the Associació Cultural Gegants de Salou, thanked Salou Council for its support, saying it went beyond financial help. She highlighted the involvement of the mayor, councillors, and the Culture and Brigade teams in the group’s activities, and said the spirit of the Gegants de Salou comes from the gegantaires whose work keeps the tradition alive.

As a gesture of thanks, Vilagran gave Granados and Curto a group scarf and a commemorative statuette. The event ended with the official unveiling of La Gralleta’s new costume, a dance by the giants and a family photograph with the group members.
