Barcelona teachers will hold a strike and concentration on 9 June from 11am in Plaça d'Espanya, two hours later than first planned, so students travelling for the university entrance exams, known as the PAU, are not affected, according to ACN.

The protest will also coincide with a papal visit to the city. Municipal workers and the Student Union are due to join the demonstration.

Trade unions are also preparing a larger demonstration in Barcelona on Sunday, 14 June, under the slogan “Demanem fets, no miracles” (We ask for facts, not miracles). The aim is to press the Socialist Party of Catalonia (PSC) for changes in public education.

Laura Gené, general secretary of CGT Ensenyament, said the goal is to push the PSC for public education reform and to win backing from families and wider society. USTEC sources said details of the larger protest are still being finalised.

The 14 June demonstration will start at Jardinets de Gràcia, with the route and timings to be announced in the coming days.
