Salou Council has given the CAP Salou health centre an instant translation device, with the aim of improving communication between healthcare staff and patients from different nationalities in the Tarragona area.

The device was delivered on 8 June 2026. The council said it is intended to help overcome language barriers in healthcare, in a town where residents and visitors come from many countries.

Mayor Pere Granados, Public Health Councillor Beatriz Morer, and CAP Salou directors Marta Hernández and Nereida González attended the handover. Andrés Ezcurra López, the centre's Management and Services representative, was also present.

Granados said technology can support essential services and help ensure more personal, safe and quality care in an open and international city like Salou. He added that being able to understand and be understood is especially important in healthcare, where speed and accuracy matter.

Morer said the council will continue to support public services in the municipality with measures that directly benefit residents. The donation is part of that approach, and the council says it reflects its commitment to a more inclusive and accessible city.

The council plans to assess the impact of the translator at CAP Salou before deciding whether similar support could be extended to other public services in the municipality. For more local updates, see our news coverage.
