Salou, on Catalonia’s Costa Daurada, will send approved safety glasses directly to residents’ homes ahead of the total solar eclipse on 12 August 2026. The council says the aim is to help people watch the event safely from one of the best viewing points in the area.
The glasses will be delivered with an information letter that sets out basic advice on safe viewing and eye protection. The council has warned that looking directly at the sun without proper protection can cause serious eye damage.
According to the council, the direct delivery is intended to make sure registered residents receive the protective materials without needing to collect them elsewhere. Other collection points may also be set up, but no details have been confirmed.
The letter will also include advice on protecting children, taking care with mobile devices, and avoiding observation spots that could create risks. The measure is part of the council’s public safety planning for the eclipse.
The total solar eclipse is expected to attract strong interest in Salou because of its favourable viewing position. For more local updates, see our news coverage.
