Repairs Completed on Bonavista's Ornamental Fountain
The Ajuntament de Tarragona has completed repair and maintenance work on the ornamental fountain located on Rambla de Bonavista. The intervention addressed significant damage caused by acts of vandalism, including the theft of outlet nozzles, valves, cabling and electrical components.
Replacement and Safety Upgrades Carried Out
Work focused on replacing stolen parts and repairing deterioration affecting the fountain and its auxiliary systems, ensuring both proper operation and public safety. The repairs were carried out by UTE TARRAGONA MANTENIMENT, the current contractor responsible for municipal facilities maintenance.
Cost and Municipal Context
The total cost of the intervention amounted to €22,101.64, including VAT. This expense forms part of broader municipal efforts to maintain public infrastructure amid recurring incidents of vandalism. According to a 2017 report from the city council, uncivil behaviour costs the city over €1.6 million annually in repair and cleaning expenses.
All locations for new installations have been agreed with local residents' associations, prioritising areas of high footfall and civic activity.
This repair comes as Ematsa, Tarragona’s municipal water company, installs four new modern drinking fountains across neighbourhoods including Bonavista, Sant Pere i Sant Pau, Torreforta and Sant Salvador. These robust, contact-free models are already present at Passeig de les Palmeres and will replace older units, such as the one on Rambla Nova that suffered repeated vandalism. The restored fountain joins other recently reactivated ornamental fountains in the city, including the Font del Centenari and Plaça Imperial, as part of seasonal preparations to enhance public spaces.
