New parking zone to prioritise residents and workers

The Ajuntament de Figueres (Figueres city council) and municipal services company FISERSA will launch a new green parking zone in the Poble Nou neighbourhood in September 2026. The 316-space regulated area will prioritise parking for residents, traders, and professionals working in the district, following repeated requests from local residents and the Poble Nou Neighbourhood Association. The zone will be bounded by Carrer Empordà on the Olot road, Avinguda Salvador Dalí, and Via Emporitana. Currently, these on-street spaces are free and unregulated, but complaints have mounted over non-residents occupying them for extended periods.

Two-tier pricing system and registration process

Authorised users, defined as those registered as residents in the area, vehicle owners, and those paying the mechanical vehicle tax in Figueres, will benefit from reduced rates of €0.20 per day, €1 per week, or €13 per quarter. There will be no time limit on parking for registered users.

The goal is to help neighbours find parking close to home, said FISERSA.

Non-residents will be able to use the spaces under a different tariff: the first 15 minutes are free, then €1.20 for one hour or €2.55 for two hours, the maximum allowed stay. The system operates Monday to Saturday, from 9am to 9pm, and does not apply on public holidays. Registration is required and can be done via the municipal green zone portal. Residents already registered for the vehicle tax will be notified directly, according to Lluís Martínez of FISERSA. One vehicle per person is permitted.

Phased rollout and additional 25-space lot

A soft launch begins on 15 September 2026, focusing on information and public adaptation. Full enforcement and operation will begin in October.

On the same day, 15 September, an additional 25-space surfaced car park will open at the intersection of Via Emporitana with Carrers Tallaferro and Tarragona. These spaces will also be regulated under the green zone system and managed by FISERSA. The new facilities are part of Figueres’ broader Pla d’Aparcaments de Proximitat (Proximity Parking Plan), which aims to deliver over 1,000 new regulated spaces by 2027. The plan combines larger access-point parking areas with smaller local lots in zones with parking shortages.
