Hundreds of hopeful actors and Disney fans gathered in Salou, Tarragona, for a casting call for an international musical film, widely rumoured to be a live-action adaptation of Disney's Tangled.
The casting, held after a similar event in Girona, sought 500 extras aged between 4 and 80 for a production scheduled to film in the Tarragona area. While organisers maintained secrecy, attendees openly discussed the possibility of it being a Disney project, with many arriving dressed in medieval-style clothing reminiscent of the animated film.
Organisers divided the casting into two main groups: adults aged 25 and over, who attended on the initial day, and children aged 4 to 14, scheduled for a later session. Teenagers, who had a strong turnout in Girona, were invited to apply online directly. A particular need was identified for men, preferably with beards and long hair, according to information shared at the event.
Hopefuls Share Dreams
Among the candidates was Albert Marín, a 32-year-old Salou resident, who arrived early. Marín, a screenwriter and film director, said he wanted to see how large productions operate. "Tangled is one of my favourite films and also my partner's, we love Disney," he explained, expressing his excitement despite his professional background.
Chingneisang Yadav, 35, from India, described her first casting experience as "very excited because it's Disney." Yadav, who grew up watching Disney films, spent the night in a camper van near the venue to secure an early spot. She hoped to be selected for a role.
Leire, a 16-year-old from Barcelona studying performing arts, saw the casting as a step towards her ambition to work for Disney. She had already submitted a hip-hop dance video online days before the event. Leire, who arrived at 3am with her family, including their dog, aimed for a performer role rather than just an extra.
Local Interest and Future Steps
Gerard Mir, 28, also from Salou, attended after friends encouraged him. Mir, who usually works behind the scenes building sets, had never acted before but felt he might have a chance given the call for male extras. "If they take me, perfect; and if not, then the next one will be," he said, keeping his expectations realistic.
The casting process will continue as organisers work to fill the 500 extra roles needed for the film. The widespread enthusiasm in Salou highlights the local interest in major film productions and the potential opportunities they bring to the region.
