Mossos d'Esquadra, the Catalan police, arrested four young people, including one minor, in Salou, Tarragona, on Wednesday, 22 April, for allegedly causing extensive damage to 16 parked vehicles. The adults involved were subsequently released with charges after appearing in court.
The incident occurred around 5am on Carrer del Nord (North Street) when a police patrol from Salou noticed a group of four youths walking in the area. According to Mossos d'Esquadra, the individuals quickened their pace and moved away rapidly upon seeing the officers, which raised suspicions.
Minutes later, a member of the public alerted the patrol that several young people had damaged numerous cars parked on the same street. The description provided by the witness fully matched that of the suspects previously observed by the officers, officials said.
Initial investigations indicate that the perpetrators walked along the initial section of Carrer del Nord, from the junction with Plaça Europa to approximately halfway down the street, striking the wing mirrors of parked vehicles with kicks or punches. Officers located the four suspects approximately 50 metres from the scene of the damage.
Arrests and Court Proceedings
After conducting the necessary checks, police confirmed that a total of 16 vehicles had sustained damage. Mossos d'Esquadra proceeded to arrest the four individuals, three of whom were aged between 18 and 19, with the fourth being a minor. All indications suggested they had been drinking, according to the police.
The minor was placed at the disposal of the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office. The three adult detainees appeared before the duty court in Tarragona on Thursday, where they were released with charges.
The adults will now face further legal proceedings related to the charges, while the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office will determine the next steps for the minor. This incident highlights the swift response of local police to reports of public order disturbances and property damage in the popular coastal town.
