Ministerial visit focuses on major urban projects

Alícia Romero, Catalonia's Minister for Economy and Finance, visited Sant Feliu de Llobregat on Wednesday 14 October 2026 for institutional talks with Mayor Lourdes Borrell and municipal leaders. The meeting centred on coordinated efforts to advance key infrastructure in health, education, urban planning and public transport. Projects discussed include the extension of the Trambaix light rail, construction of a new Urgent and Primary Care Centre (CUAP), expanded vocational training offerings and the development of a new urban central district following the burial of railway tracks through the town.

CUAP to serve up to 150,000 residents

Mayor Borrell highlighted the importance of building a new CUAP as part of the city's transformation. The facility will be integrated into the new urban central area created by the railway burial project and will provide healthcare services for residents of Sant Feliu and surrounding municipalities. According to reporting by Metrópoli Abierta, the new health complex will be built at number 35 Rambla Marquesa de Castellbell, on municipal land next to the Juan Carlos Navarro sports centre. With an investment exceeding €20 million, the 7,000-square-metre facility will house both the relocated CAP Rambla and the new CUAP, serving over 150,000 people. Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with the centre operational by 2029.

It is an important facility for the health of citizens not only in Sant Feliu but in neighbouring towns, up to 150,000 people will be able to access it.

, Lourdes Borrell, Mayor of Sant Feliu de Llobregat

Trambaix extension to add three new stops

The planned Trambaix extension will improve public transport access by adding three new stops: Sant Feliu Centre, which will serve as an intermodal hub at the new commuter rail station; La Salut I Can Maginàs; and Sànson I Palau de la Justícia, located at the entrance to the El Pla industrial estate. The latter could support a future extension towards Molins de Rei. The expansion will also enhance connectivity to the Escola Arquitecte Gaudí. The project forms part of a broader urban renewal plan that will free up over 140,000 square metres of public space for an innovative ecodistrict at the heart of the municipality.

Expanded vocational training in the pipeline

Education was another key focus, with both the Generalitat and local government committed to increasing vocational training (FP) offerings. Sant Feliu is currently the only town in the comarca offering FP in Hospitality and Food, and officials are working to expand the range of courses available. According to a municipal bulletin, the historic Nau de les Sedes building in Can Bertrand will house the new public Institute of Hospitality and Food Industries of Baix Llobregat. This will consolidate and expand current training currently delivered in classrooms at INS Martí Dot and Palau Falguera. The project will also free up space at INS Martí Dot for the planned expansion of secondary school places.

PUOSC funding supports local projects

Romero referenced the Pla Únic d'Obres i Serveis de Catalunya (PUOSC), a €500 million funding programme for local infrastructure projects. She confirmed investment in Sant Feliu through PUOSC in the CUAP, Trambaix extension and new courthouse. The Generalitat is also preparing a second neighbourhood improvement plan, with Sant Feliu among the beneficiaries. Further details on funding allocations and timelines will be coordinated between the Department of Economy and Finance and the Sant Feliu city council.

Visit concludes with Almirall plant tour

Following the institutional meeting, Mayor Borrell and Minister Romero visited the facilities of pharmaceutical company Almirall in Sant Feliu, where they met with staff and toured the site.
