The Associació de Veïns del Safareig is holding its annual Festa Major this weekend in central Sabadell, relocating most events indoors due to unfavourable weather forecasts. On Thursday 15 October 2026, the association confirmed it had moved activities from Plaça de les Dones del Tèxtil to its indoor venue, Safareig de la Font Nova, to ensure the celebrations can proceed safely.
Concerts have been cancelled, as the interior space does not meet requirements for musical performances, according to the association’s official announcement published on Ràdio Sabadell. Despite the changes, core events including children’s workshops, a communal dinner, a chocolate gathering, traditional havaneres singing, and a new paella competition will go ahead at the indoor venue.
The Festa Major runs from Friday 16 to Sunday 18 October 2026, marking the closing event of Sabadell’s neighbourhood festival calendar this year, as noted on festivalesdeespana.com. This is the first year the Safareig celebration has been formally included in the city’s circuit of neighbourhood festivals.
Esteve Ferrandiz, a representative of the Associació de Veïns del Safareig, said:
“We are a very young association and we want to create networks between local groups.”
The group, established around three years ago, aims to strengthen community ties in the central area bounded approximately by Carrer de les Tres Creus, Carrer de Vilarrúbias, Passeig de Manresa, and Gran Via.
Community Focus Amid Practical Challenges
Beyond the festivities, the association is advocating for better noise control, waste management, and regulation of night-time leisure zones and terraces. It also seeks improved bus noise mitigation and stronger collaboration between residents and local organisations.
The association’s base, Safareig de la Font Nova, is a historic modernist building dating from 1892, designed by architect Miquel Pascual, according to the Ajuntament de Sabadell’s Museus Municipals website. Originally part of Sabadell’s network of public washhouses, the site preserves architectural features including decorative façade tiles and an impluvium-style roof.
Weather-Dependent Schedule
Additional activities, including yoga and dance workshops and children’s entertainment on Sunday, remain conditional on weather developments. The association is urging attendees to monitor its Instagram profile @av_safareig for real-time updates on the programme.
