Olot City Council's local government board has approved the demolition of the building at 14 Carrer Sant Miquel, with work expected to begin in November 2026 and finish before the end of the year.
For residents and businesses on Carrer Sant Miquel, the demolition is an early step in the planned Ronda Sant Miquel, a new route intended to reach the area around the Consum supermarket and follow the River Fluvià. The council has not yet set out the detailed design of the route.
Demolition planned for November
The council has included the demolition in its 2026 budget and expects to put the contract out to tender before work starts. Residents can consult the council's published 2026 consolidated budget information through its electronic headquarters.
- Location: 14 Carrer Sant Miquel, Olot.
- Expected start: November 2026, after the works contract is tendered.
- Expected completion: by the end of 2026.
The building stands on a street where other properties have been boarded up, according to reporting on the council decision.
Route intended as a riverside promenade
Jordi Güell, Olot's councillor for Urban Planning, said the future Ronda Sant Miquel is intended to prioritise the riverside rather than through-traffic.
“It should be more like a riverside promenade than a traffic street. It should be a pleasant street.”
The proposed route would extend towards the Consum supermarket area, a part of the neighbourhood close to local shops and green spaces. A nearby plot at 11 Carrer Sant Miquel is described in a Servihabitat listing as urban land whose development remains subject to urban-planning procedures.
