Reus, in Tarragona, was the scene of a police arrest on Monday, 18 May, after a 19-year-old man allegedly threatened officers with a large knife in the street. One Mossos d'Esquadra officer suffered minor injuries during the arrest.

The incident happened at about 8.30pm on Antoni Fabra i Riba street, after officers received reports of a person causing alarm with a bladed weapon, according to ElCaso.com. Police said the man was wearing a face covering and was seen carrying a large knife.

Officers tried to speak with him. He first showed the weapon and then put it in his pocket, but later began threatening the officers with physical aggression, the report said.

During the arrest, the man resisted and an officer fell, causing the minor injuries. He was then detained on suspicion of threats and assault against agents of authority.

Police did not disclose the young man's nationality. Officials said he is of foreign origin and has two previous police records for unrelated offences. For more Catalonia-wide reporting, see our news coverage.
