In El Vendrell, the Supreme Court has upheld a 25-and-a-half-year prison sentence for a man who tried to kill his ex-wife and her sister. The attack took place in the summer of 2020, and the ruling makes the sentence final.
According to Diari de Tarragona, the man entered the women’s home in the early hours despite a restraining order. He used flammable liquid against them before starting a fire inside the property.
The original trial found him guilty of attempted murder, with aggravating factors linked to the breach of the court order and the use of fire. The Supreme Court has now confirmed that conviction and sentence.
The case is one of the latest domestic violence rulings to be finalised in Catalonia, with the court action centred on El Vendrell in the Tarragona area. For more local reporting, see our news coverage.
The victims survived the attack, but the incident caused serious danger and lasting harm. The court’s decision closes the appeal process and leaves the prison term in place.
