Fourth Inclusive Sports Day to Take Place in Reus
Reus will host the 4th Jornada Inclusiva d'Esports per a Tothom (Inclusive Sports Day) this Thursday, 8 October 2026, in Plaça de la Llibertat. The event, organised by the Àrea de Serveis a les Persones i Drets Socials and the Regidoria de Salut i Esports through Reus Esport i Lleure, will run from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 15:00 to 17:00. The morning and early afternoon sessions are aimed at primary and secondary school students from local schools, while the afternoon session from 16:00 to 19:00 will be open to the general public. From 16:00 to 17:00, students will also participate in the public segment.
Adapted Sports and Community Engagement
Participants will be able to try adapted sports such as handbike, padel, sitting volleyball, wheelchair basketball, adapted crossfit, chair pilates, boccia, touch bowls, and "El so fa gol" (Sound Makes Goal), a sensory-based football activity. Each station will allow attendees to experience the unique challenges and opportunities of adapted sports. A dedicated information tent will showcase local organisations and resources involved in promoting inclusive sport. The event aims to break down barriers and stigmas around disability and highlight the value of diverse abilities in sport.
Torch Arrival for Special Olympics Tarragona 2026
The sports day coincides with the arrival of the Special Olympics Tarragona 2026 torch in Reus. The torch will depart from Reus Town Hall at 10:45 and travel through several city streets accompanied by athletes from local clubs Alba and Bellisens.
It will arrive at Plaça de la Llibertat around 11:00, where institutional speeches will be held and the cauldron lit. This marks the final stop of the torch relay across 15 municipalities ahead of the games, which will take place from 9 to 12 October at the Anella Mediterrània sports complex in Tarragona. The event is free and aims to strengthen Reus’s commitment to accessible sport for all. It also serves as a meeting point between sports organisations, schools, social entities, and the public to promote participation, autonomy, and socialisation.
Collaborative Organisation
The day is jointly organised by the Ajuntament de Reus, Reus Esport i Lleure, the Catalan Federation of Sports for People with Physical Disabilities, the Tarragona Provincial Council, and various members of the Municipal Disability Council. The initiative underscores the city’s ongoing support for inclusive physical activity.
