A woman in Reus has been sentenced to nearly a year in prison for her involvement as the treasurer of a cannabis club, following an agreement with prosecutors. The Tarragona Provincial Court's Section Two handed down a sentence of five and a half months for a public health offence and an additional six months for unlawful association. She also received fines totalling €2,480.

The court ordered the confiscation of money and substances seized, the destruction of the drugs, and the dissolution of the association, according to court documents.

Along with others, the woman established the Asociación Cannábica de Reus on 17 November 2014. Its registered office was located on the ground floor of number 8, Avinguda Jaume I. The club's statutes stated its purpose was to create a stable network to regulate cannabis-related aspects, promote informational activities, and develop a management model to avoid black market risks.

Illegal Sales Beyond Members

Article four of the statutes outlined shared marijuana cultivation, exclusively for private consumption by members. It detailed cultivation forecasts, specificities, and types, and also established how to ensure supply in case of crop loss and how cultivated substances should be transported.

However, the association's ultimate goal was the illegal production and sale of cannabis for money, extending beyond its registered members. It operated without the necessary authorisation from the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Products.

The official registration application for the club was suspended by the Ministry of Interior's General Sub-directorate of Associations, Archives, and Documentation, which then reported its activities to the State Attorney General's Office.

Between February 2015 and 27 July 2016, the association's managers, seeking illicit personal enrichment, sold cannabis to various buyers who visited the club. These buyers included both members and non-members. Court records detail the names of buyers, quantities purchased, and prices paid.

Police Raid and Seizures

On 25 July 2016, police raided and searched the premises. Officers found marijuana, hashish, a precision scale, €165 in cash, and documentation related to the association and its members.

This conviction highlights the ongoing efforts to regulate cannabis-related activities in Catalonia and Spain. The dissolution of the association marks a significant step in addressing organisations operating outside legal frameworks.
