Puigcerdà, in Cerdanya, has seen the restoration of a key historical record linked to its water supply, the Book of Privileges of the Puigcerdà Water Canal. The Cerdanya Regional Archive has completed the work on the volume, which documents the management of the canal since the 14th century.

The canal, known as the Sèquia de Puigcerdà, has long been central to the town’s life, supporting agriculture and daily use. The restored book helps preserve the record of how this essential infrastructure was governed over time.

The book contains rules, agreements and other records related to the canal’s operation, water distribution rights and maintenance duties. Its condition had worsened over the years, which made conservation work necessary to protect the contents for future study.

Specialist restoration techniques were used to repair the aged pages and binding. This means the document can now be handled and consulted with less risk of further damage.

The restored volume is now available for consultation at the Cerdanya Regional Archive. For readers following local heritage coverage across Catalonia, see our news page for more reporting.
