Puigcerdà Council has reaffirmed its support for the Cerdanya Film Festival, saying it wants to work with organisers so the event can continue. The council issued a statement after recent reports, and said it has “at no point considered blocking its celebration”.
The council said it has a “firm commitment to culture” and supports cultural and artistic projects that contribute to the town’s cultural, social and economic life. It also said cinema and audiovisual activity are part of Puigcerdà’s cultural strategy, and that the festival has “value and trajectory within the territory’s cultural scene”.
According to the council, work has been under way from the start to fit the festival into a framework that matches the town’s cultural programme, the availability of public spaces and the principle of equal access to municipal facilities. It said it has offered available spaces and dates so the festival can go ahead alongside other cultural and social events planned for municipal venues during the summer.
Regarding Casino Ceretà, a venue linked with the festival, the council said the building continues to host cultural activities as normal. It added that the casino has been used for the festival in previous editions “without significant incidents”.
The council said this year’s technical and organisational needs go beyond the municipality’s current technical, logistical and staffing capacity. For that reason, it has asked organisers to revise their proposal so the event can be “viable, safe, and appropriate to the real possibilities of municipal facilities”.
Puigcerdà Council said it remains willing to keep working “through dialogue and collaboration” to find a proposal that fits both the festival’s needs and the town’s facilities. For more local coverage, see our news page.
