In Barcelona, Ferran Pedret, president of PSC-Units in the Catalan Parliament, said it is “not so frequent” for the Catalan government to agree and approve budgets in Catalonia’s recent parliamentary history.
He made the comments on Friday after opposition criticism of the budget deal. Pedret said the government and the PSC did everything possible to reach “a good agreement as soon as possible”, even though final approval did not come until almost halfway through the legislature and after an initial project withdrawal.
Pedret criticised Junts, the PP and Vox for objecting that the same budget project had been brought back to the chamber as in February. He urged them to “read the agreements we have signed with ERC and with the Comuns”, and said some parties seem to prefer pessimism when there is good news for the country.
He also said the budget has a “clearly social focus”, with the aim of improving public services and infrastructure. Pedret added that the government is making significant investment in infrastructure across Catalonia.
