The first Pans & Company restaurant in Spain, located in Barcelona's Plaça Urquinaona, has reopened with a new image and services. This site, which originally launched in 1991, now serves as an example of the brand's nationwide renewal, according to Group Ibersol.
For years, the Plaça Urquinaona location was known for its long queues, as customers sought out its sandwiches made with local ingredients. The current renovation is part of a full transformation, covering the brand's identity, image, spaces, services, products, drinks, and packaging. Group Ibersol developed these changes over the past year to strengthen Pans' position in Spain, adapting to current consumer habits.
Modern Design and New Services
The restaurant's design features minimalist lines and a clearer, more balanced aesthetic. Natural-inspired materials and technology have been used to create a brighter space, targeting a younger, urban demographic. New services include table delivery, self-service points, and free drink refill machines. The menu also introduces a new range of natural fruit and herb drinks without added sugars.
Antonio Pinto Sousa, President of Group Ibersol, stated that this new phase is "much more than a change of image." He described it as "the natural evolution of a leading brand that understands how consumption habits are changing and decides to anticipate with a more current and flexible proposal." The company hopes to connect with more demanding consumers who look for quality, environment, and service.
Simplified Name and Future Plans
The brand has simplified its name to PANS, aiming for a more direct approach. The logo retains its distinctive yellow colour but features a modern design. Employee uniforms will also reflect these changes. Pans will continue to update its offerings, including new sandwiches, salads, and desserts, with a focus on more careful and surprising presentations, the company said.
Group Ibersol considers the Urquinaona site symbolic, marking the brand's initial launch. They wanted to restore its prominence with this reopening after a period of construction. Pans is currently the leading sandwich company in the Spanish market, with a network of 111 restaurants across Spain, Portugal, and Andorra. Group Ibersol also manages brands such as Ribs, Santamaría, and FrescCo, alongside licences for Pizza Hut, KFC, Taco Bell, and Pret A Manger.
