Clean-up drives across six Pyrenean sites
The six ski and mountain stations operated by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) under the Pirineu365 brand have collected over a tonne of waste during environmental clean-up events held between June and October 2026. The initiative involved staff, schools, local associations, and volunteer groups across La Molina, Vall de Núria, Vallter, Espot, Port Ainé, and Boí Taüll. These annual clean-up days aim to preserve natural mountain environments and raise awareness among visitors. During the summer and autumn months, areas used as ski slopes in winter revert to open meadows and hiking zones, making it easier to access and clean waste left behind.
Local participation and targeted actions
At La Molina, employees worked alongside members of the Adis and Tallers de Cerdanya foundations and pupils from the Bac de Cerdanya primary school in Alp. The installation of permanent recycling points has helped reduce litter, particularly after large events such as the La Molina Bike Show. In Vall de Núria, staff from all operating bodies joined forces to clean sensitive areas including the Mulleres stream, the cable car line, the Font Negra and Finestrelles streams, and the area beneath the dam. More than 25 participants from the Club Excursionista Madteam and the Marrana Skyrace organisation took part in the second annual clean-up at Vallter, clearing key locations such as Pla de Morens i Xemeneia, Clot, Bac, and Xalet.
These actions reaffirm our commitment to sustainability and responsible tourism in the mountains,
said a spokesperson for FGC Turisme.
Mountain Calling and Boí Taüll efforts
Espot and Port Ainé took part in the sixth edition of Mountain Calling on 26 and 27 September 2026, a joint initiative led by the local group Loser Surfers with support from the Natural Park of Alt Pirineu and Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park. Staff, local families, and park representatives collaborated in the clean-up. Meanwhile, workers at Boí Taüll carried out two separate clean-up days across high mountain zones to protect the landscape and support long-term conservation. FGC organises these clean-up events annually as part of its environmental and social responsibility strategy, detailed in its Integrated Management Report 2025 on the FGC transparency portal.
