In L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, plans for the future Clínic Hospital are moving ahead, with the Catalan government delegate in Barcelona, Pilar Díaz, saying the project is progressing “very swiftly”. The hospital is not expected to open until at least 2035, but studies and preparatory work are already under way.
Díaz made the comments outside Bellvitge market, where she said there is a monthly meeting involving all the administrations that make up the consortium for the new Clínic. She also said work is under way on the Urban Master Plan, known as the PDU, and described that process as moving “more than adequately”.
Mobility planning is another key part of the project. The executive plan for the extension of metro line L3 is being modified so it can accommodate the future hospital and also meet the needs of Sant Joan de Déu Hospital, which is on the other side of Diagonal Avenue.
The project is being developed through coordination between several public bodies, with urban planning and transport changes moving in parallel. For readers following local public works across Catalonia, the latest updates are being tracked on our news page.
As the scheme advances, the focus remains on how the new hospital will fit into the urban fabric of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat and serve the wider area. Further steps will depend on the ongoing planning work and the agreed mobility changes.
