Emergency services carried out two mountain rescues in Central Catalonia on Saturday, 23 May 2026, as part of a wider day of incidents across Catalonia. By 6pm, the SEM, the Medical Emergency System, said there had been ten mountain rescues across the region, including one fatal incident.
One rescue took place in the Pedraforca area, where a person fell and suffered leg injuries. The second involved a lost and disoriented hiker in the Montseny area. Both people received medical attention after being taken to healthcare centres.
In both Central Catalonia rescues, the Bombers de la Generalitat worked with the SEM and the Mossos d'Esquadra. The joint response helped with the recovery and transport of the injured and missing hikers.
The Bombers also took part in a third rescue in the Cerdanya area. The number of call-outs on Saturday underlines the risks linked to mountain activity and the need for emergency teams to stay ready across Catalonia.
