Mataró dominate final to claim fourth Supercopa
Centre Natació Mataró won the 2026 Spanish women's water polo Supercopa Iberdrola, defeating Club Natació Sant Andreu 15–5 in the final held on Monday morning at the Joan Serra pool in Mataró. The victory marks their fourth title in the competition, adding to previous wins in 2019, 2021 and 2022. The Mataró team, current league champions, were strong favourites and asserted their dominance from the start. They led 4–1 at the end of the first quarter and extended their advantage to 8–2 by half-time. The match followed a consistent pattern in the second half, with Mataró winning the third and fourth quarters 3–1 and 4–2 respectively.
Strong defence and attack secure win
Despite missing key player Tilly Kearns, who remained on the bench, Mataró’s performance was comprehensive. Kamilla Faragó led the attack with three goals, supported by contributions across the team. Sarah Buis, playing in goal for Sant Andreu, made ten saves, including three penalty stops, but could not contain the relentless pressure. Sant Andreu struggled to build attacking momentum, particularly in connecting with their centre forward. Helena Dalmases scored two of their five goals. Mataró also had room for improvement, converting only one of five penalties, but their superiority in open play and counter-attacks proved decisive.
The Mataró team, current league champions, were strong favourites and asserted their dominance from the start.
The match formed part of Mataró’s busy sporting calendar, promoted by the Ajuntament de Mataró as part of its local sports agenda. The city’s support for the women’s water polo team has included municipal collaboration to help the squad compete in European competitions.
Looking ahead
This Supercopa win follows Mataró’s retention of the Copa Catalunya and reinforces their status at the top of Spanish women’s water polo. Club Natació Sant Andreu, undergoing a major squad rebuild after a successful cycle, face a rebuilding phase as they prepare for upcoming Champions League group stage matches.
