Context and Recent Precedent
In previous years, the event has drawn around 60 local entities and hundreds of residents. The 2024 ceremony featured speeches highlighting democratic commitment and the defence of the Catalan language, with mayor Aloy referencing political exiles, disqualifications and legal challenges to Catalan as current concerns. While most groups were welcomed with applause during the floral offering, Aliança Catalana was met with whistles according to reports from NacióDigital. The 2024 event saw 58 organisations participate, a record at the time.
