Unified Festival Brings Wine and Food Together

Figueres will host a combined gastronomic and wine celebration for the first time, merging the 40th edition of the Mostra del Vi de l'Empordà and the third Fòrum Gastronòmic Ciutat. The joint event runs from 2 to 4 October on the city’s Rambla, creating a shared space for DO Empordà wines, local cuisine, tastings, and live music. Organisers aim to transform the Rambla into a full-day destination where visitors can explore products, eat, drink, and socialise. This new format moves beyond previous scheduling overlaps by fully integrating both events into one cohesive experience.

New Features Enhance Visitor Experience

A key addition is the Bar à Vins, a dedicated space showcasing a wider selection of wines from the Denominació d'Origen (DO) Empordà. Unlike standard winery stands, this bar will operate until the festival closes at 23:00 each night, forming part of the evening atmosphere alongside live concerts. For greater flexibility, attendees will purchase separate tasting tickets, one for wine, another for food. This system allows guests to customise their experience and freely combine culinary offerings with wine discovery across the three days.

The objective is that visitors don’t just come for a single talk or tasting, but can spend much of the day here, discovering products, eating, drinking and sharing the experience.

The shift from late June to early October avoids summer heatwaves and conflicts with grape harvests, making it easier for wineries to participate. The change is managed by Incatis, which has taken over coordination of the Mostra del Vi while pledging to uphold its 40-year legacy.

Jaume Subirós Named Preacher for 40th Anniversary

Chef and Motel Empordà owner Jaume Subirós will deliver the official opening sermon, the pregó, for the 40th Mostra del Vi. His appointment underscores the growing link between regional gastronomy and viticulture. Gastronomic sessions will now include wine pairings with DO Empordà vintages, reflecting the deeper integration between the two events. Previous editions of the Fòrum Gastronòmic have drawn chefs, producers, and culinary professionals, with cooking demos, artisan markets, and tasting competitions. The event was presented on 4 September by Figueres mayor Jordi Masquef, DO Empordà president Carme Casacuberta, and representatives from Incatis and Girona Provincial Council. It is organised by the Ajuntament de Figueres, DO Empordà, and Incatis, with support from the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona. Visitors can find official details and updates via the Ajuntament de Figueres' Mostra del Vi page.
