Manresa City Council is facing questions over whether it can prove the recycling of 440 tonnes of paper and cardboard, according to the CGT union in Manresa. The material was collected from the city’s historic centre and some outer neighbourhoods.
The union says the council has not provided accreditation for the final destination of this selective waste. It also says the cardboard and paper may have been sent to landfills outside the Bages region instead of being recycled.
CGT says it had already made a public complaint about the possible misdirection of the material. The union now says the council still has not confirmed where the waste ended up.
The dispute centres on transparency in local waste management and on whether residents can trust that recycling bins are handled as expected. The union is pressing for clear proof that the collected material entered recycling streams.
